Need some advice, financial coaching
Hello Derek/Justin,
I have just set up30 minute appointment with someone who is in a ton of trouble. Here is his situation:
Just contacted a disability attorney because of chronic asthma that is progressing, a ruptured lumbar disc, 3 bulging lower back discs. 2 bulging neck discs....all associated with pain and decreased ability to work more than 3 hours at a time.
Just contacted a Bankruptcy attorney because of $150,000 debt from various credit cards, a repossessed commercial property, motor home and an expensive piece of medical equipment. 300,000 of total debts and income is $4000/mth
Just contacted an attorney to deal with returning 2 court about decreasing or eliminating alimony payments to ex-wife of approximately $2,000/month..more or less depending on her medical bills that is to paid until she remarries (unlikely) or passes on. Been divorced 16 years. His advice was wait until disability and bankruptcy process starts.
Ok...so how does he not file bk? I will be focusing on the details of a budget and really getting them focused on the small "stuff"....so once they are out of this, they can be on a budget and understand how to manage money.
Do you have any other suggestions for someone like this........?

doing their consultation this week
I just completed a consultation with someone, and they want to move forward next Monday. This will be the long distance appointment i was asking you about....so I have to get that all worked out before hand w/ my computer.
Question: I am providing each of my clients a book and the personality test as part of the package. What book would you recommend? The obvious choice is Ramsey.....any other ones you would recommend? This clients husband killed himself 6 years ago........so maybe a book about overcoming might be in order.....

I think you're actually covered on the finances with them and don't think you should include Dave's book. You're the expert here, not Dave.
How about a book that's complimentary, like QBQ or Flipping the Switch?
Maybe even a classic like Rhinoceros Success or The Legend of the Monk and the Merchant. I used to give my clients a copy of The Tortoise and the Hare even.
