I love Craigslist. This past Sunday, I purchased a 37 inch LCD monitor (not TV) for our conference room for just $300. It retailed a couple of years ago for $2,500. Like all great hunters we started with a clear goal - a 32 to 42 in LCD monitor. We then patiently began tracking the wiley beast, searching Craigslist, WalMart, Sam's Club for after Christmas bargains. We set a budget of $500 with a goal of $400. I found several 32 inch TVs at WalMart for under $400 but felt someone would dump a larger system after the holidays, which is what happened. Remember, set a goal, stick to it and be patient.
That's a fantastic story, Chris! I recently took advantage of a great deal on Craigslist to get some chairs for our office. We recently moved to a new location and had a major shortage of chairs for our clients - in the waiting room and in our offices. I found a business in Raleigh unloading some reception/client chairs for $15 a piece, but talked them down to $10 and took four off their hands. The chairs I purchased retail for around $45 each. You better believe I was celebrating my smart buy!

Craigslist is a great place to find good deals when you're in the market for just about anything, and a great place to unload unwanted items for quick cash. You're absolutely right, Chris - if you have a little patience you can get a great deal!
I told Christine about the deal on that TV Chris and now she wants one. She was fine with out TV knowing that a new one is $2,000, but not now.

Thank for ruining it for me!

Justin:

Sounds like mama's gettin' a new LCD TV.

Chris
I'm still fighting it. Here's a good story that happened recently. I brought on an incredible bookkeeper recently (you can find her at LukasCoaching.com/partners).

She asked me about depreciating equipment and furniture. She thought everything in my office including the furniture was very expensive. While it was, I don't think I paid full price for anything in there. As it turns out, I paid so little for everything that I can actually write it all off in one year rather than depreciating it over time. She was amazed at all the deals.

There's really no reason to fight it, Justin. Think of how great "LOST" will be when watched on the big screen, plat panel TV! It'll be like you're actually lost, too!

I already mentioned it in a recent Cash Club post, but my wife got an incredible deal on an antique vanity for our guestroom over the weekend. She bought it at the flea market for $80 after talking the vendor down a little bit, then saw a similar piece at another store for over $200. Needless to say, she was pretty fired up about her bargain!
Craigslist is the BOMB! Linda and I have been looking for some new (gently used) patio furniture since late Winter. Well, last Saturday morning I saw a posting for a teak patio set, 8 foot table with 4 chairs and an umbrella for $150! WOW! I called immediately, the woman who answered said she had someone coming at noon, it was 10AM. I said I'll come right now and give you$250 (the set's retail price was over $2,000). She said OK. I called my neighbor Henry, we drove over and I paid the woman $250. The umbrella had a broken arm and the set was covered with mold and mildew. The new arm cost $10 and I used a gallon of deck cleaner which cost $15 to clean off the mold and mildew. So I now have a $2,000 teak patio set that looks almost new for a whopping $275. GO CRAIGSLIST.
I just purchased a 1 year old Frigidaire side-by-side 26 cubic foot stainless steel refrigerator for just $300. It retailed for $1599 last year. Linda had to give it a good cleaning and we had to drive all the way to Siler City, 38 miles to pick it up but what a great deal. Our goal is to purchase all stainless steel appliances for under $1000. Go Craigslist.
Sometimes bargains take a little work before you can recognize the benefits. This fridge was rancid, filled with spoiled ice cream that had dripped over the coil in the back of the freezer. We had to rip the bugger apart to get all to maggots out. Yeah, it had maggots on the coil. But, it cleaned up easily. Also, they never used the ice maker or water dispenser - even better.
That sounds pretty disgusting. I hope you got a great deal Chris!

As of this weekend, the fridge is working great, the stink is gone. We purchased a stainless steel Frigidaire Stove, glass top, about 3 years old for $375 delivered and a 1 year old Kenmore Dishwasher for $240. Our total for gently used stainless steel appliances is $995. I expect to sell the old stove for $100 and the old dishwasher for $75 making our net outlay just $820. There are great bargains out there. Go craigslist!
