Be Intentional About Life

Hey group! I was curious what you thought was the most beneficial lesson during FPU. For me, I like how Dave unpacks the relationship aspect of budgeting and getting on a financial plan (I believe it's the Relating with Money lesson).

Share your favorite lesson and some of the things you learned about money or life that you didn't know before attending FPU!

I thought when Derek led for the insurance lesson, it was stellar!

Just this Monday my insurance guy walked into my office to tell me my rates went down for 2009, as homeowner's premiums rise throughout the state.

Check out Mike at www.mvpinsurancegroup.com.
Thanks, Justin - I appreciate it. We're both huge fans of Mike Petilli at MVP Insurance Group, and even though we plug what he does, I think the biggest take-away from that insurance lesson is to review your insurance and look for areas where you might be spending too much, or are over-insured.

Insurance can be a a bit intimidating - we know we need insurance, but sometimes we don't know how to tailor our insurance policies to our lives. I worked with some clients the other night who openly stated that they were "insurance poor". We're going to get them on the right track, but that teaches an important lesson: you won't know if you're paying too much until you get some quotes.

Mike's team at MVP shops around a whole bunch of providers, and he'll tell you if he thinks your current policy is better than what's out there. He'll even re-shop your insurance annually for you to make sure you always have the best deal.
I had two favorite lessons. The first lesson was the cash flow planning class, because it was really the first time my wife and I were able to find a common language regarding how to prepare a budget and cash flow plan. We were finally able to agree on a philosophy and a method to budget our spending. The second lesson was the Working in Your Strengths class. I am basically getting by in my current position until I can start a full-time business joining my loves of business, public speaking, teaching, and business research. I am currently revamping my business plan and branding for my business consulting/coaching practice, and I am reviewing the Working in Your Strengths lesson as I work on my new plan.
My favorite lesson was the Great Misunderstanding. I loved the story of how the featured couple was helped by the debt free couple.

I have been writing twice monthly financial emails for my co workers. The most response I got was on the topic of insurance. I had a bunch of people stop by my office with tons of questions and I gave out lots of advice.
