Finances: Broke or Poor?

There is a difference.

Broke- “destroy; make whole into pieces”
Poor- “a hapless victim, deserving or inciting pity, fortune-less, poverty”

The main difference is mindset, ala Dave Ramsey:
“Broke, you are passing through. Poor is a mindset.”

With being broke, you know you are passing through this time in your life. You are battling. Sure , you get down or even downright depressed. I’ve been there.

It’s sometimes a struggle leaning back into the past and realizing what you had before and now it’s different.

But you fight to put the pieces back together.

Once attained, then lost = more difficult to deal with.

But being poor is a lot more cancerous.
It messes with your future before your future even begins. It sucks the spirit of life out of you……long term.

Even worse, it becomes your reality. You sometimes simply do not know any better.

And there is no fight to get out of it.

Broke: You are only checking in for a couple of nights at the Motel Broke. You are moving on in the morning.
Poor: You have to sleep in the parking lot and do not realize that you can actually walk in the front door to check in.

Attitude is another separation:

Broke: “Crap, I really blew it” or “Lost my job after 20 years”…..”But I will fight through it because I know I am valuable to someone.”

Poor: “I deserve to get _______” or “Why aren’t more people giving me more “stuff”?

You see the difference?
Mindset and attitude separate the two even though we sometimes lump them together.

In reality, they are a world apart.
